This study is primarily concerned with describing and analyzing the life situations of a group of retired women. This material will … knowledge by telling us about the lives of … retired women, an area in which little has been done. It will also provide us with information about the woman’s link with the job, another area about which little is known. These are significant problems since women are increasingly a part of the labor force in our society and since older women are becoming an increasingly larger proportion of our older population. The result must be a large group of retired women now, and in the future an even larger group. Adequate provision for the health and welfare of these retired women therefore dictated that we find out something about them.
